After several days enjoying the northern anchorages of Moorea we started to trickle down the west coast.  Charlotte and Colin only have 10 days with us and they want to see as much as possible.   We had a great sail around the north coast and went in the Matauvau Pass where there was a fantastic surf break – it was rather thrilling to head through the pass watching surfers scream down the breakers beside us.

Anchored in the lagoon was a catamaran we’d heard on our Magellan Net in the Caribbean last year.  We knew they’d gone through the Panama Canal last year and were keen to hear where they’d been.  After chatting on VHF we discovered they headed to New Zealand last season but found it too expensive so sailed back to Tahiti!!  Interestingly, Charlotte and Colin haven’t found Tahiti as expensive as we have.   They tell us we will be shocked by prices back home – given we’re shocked at prices here that makes sense.  Oh well, if we find it too bad we’ll just sail away.

Tomorrow we plan to head up the eastern coast inside the lagoon and find a nice anchorage.
