After a lovely day and night in Daniel’s Bay we headed back to Taiohae to drop off our Bulgarian backpackers.   They had been great company and it was fun to have some enthusiastic young people on board for a day or two.  We had drinks with them at a waterfront bar before they set off to pitch their tent – they refused our offers of a bed on Bandit.   We caught up on internetting and headed back to Bandit  for yet another early night.  It is dark here by 6pm which makes for a very long night.  We’ve adopted the local habit of having an early night (hate to admit it....but sometimes we’re in bed by 8pm!) and early start to the day.   We seem to be up as soon as it’s light – 6am.   We are managing to read our way through a lot of books with all these early nights.

We checked the weather and it’s looking good to head to nearby Ua Pou today so, once we’ve stocked up on baguettes, brie and pain au chocolate we shall set sail.  It’s only a couple of hours away and we plan to stay a night or perhaps two before heading to the Tuamoto islands – a four day/night sail south west.
