New crew arrived today.  Unfortunately Basil from our previous trip has been eaten but we have been joined by Basil junior who has spent the day on deck being refreshed by the intermittent showers that have dumped solid rain on our heads.  He is rather cute.
After years of wrestling with the brutish Gerry we truly believe that this time we may have him beaten.  It has taken the eleventh hour arrival of a spare part, the replacement of a leaking cooling pipe that was dripping corrosive sea water everywhere, fiddling around with some crossed wires and the replacement of a defunct starter battery but between Bob, Chris the electrician and Laurence with his super mario moustache they have persevered and won the battle as the sun set on a frustrating day where Gerry was determined to throw everything he had at the heroes of the hour.  No one is assuming that this will be the last time that Gerry rears his curmudgeonly head, that would be a very foolish assumption indeed.  While Gerry was fighting with everything he had, the windlass was smugly lurking at the front of the boat, cunningly keeping quiet about the extensive corrosion that had eaten away the electric terminals.  As the exhausted men thought about a refreshing cold beer, that windlass spitefully decided to show its true colours and gave absolutely no reaction at all when called into play.  Bob and Chris the electrician turned their weary attention to the windlass as darkness fell but between them they saved the day before being rewarded by a nice cold Piton.
We think we are now ready to head off tomorrow.  We have checked out, released the berth to the hovering Arc vultures but are slightly annoyed to be leaving a day late and therefore actually being in Rodney Bay for the Arc’s karaoke night.  It might be slightly worse than the celebrating Germans who gustily sang their drinking songs until 6am this morning.
