Holiday on Penang Island

I took the ferry to Penang for my annual MoT (which went well) and took a few day’s holiday.  The marina there is not great in the south west monsoon season and there is no wind to sail; hence the ferry.

Georgetown is a lovely city, especially the old town where I stayed.  Much has been renovated – if you buy a building you must bring it back to its original state. I took a street food tour and wandered around the narrow streets with the famous artwork.   Artists come from all over the world to paint murals here. Monkey Beach is in a national park, very strictly controlled – you are not allowed to smoke anywhere in the park.  Amazingly at the beach they have banana boats, jet skis and even quads! I took a tour of the famous Blue Mansion and met with the most boring tour guide on the planet and did some shopping.

There are six Chinese jetties in Georgetown each owned and lived in by one huge extended family.

A lovely break.  I will go back…
