I arrive in Mendana at get a good anchoring spot but the anchorage itself is very uncomfortable. There is a complex here owned by an Englishman and his Indonesian wife. As we go west supplies become more plentiful. I buy my first bacon since leaving Australia.

A great welcome ceremony; very colourful and mercifully short speeches listened to with long Bintangs. Next day three of us get a taxi for a five hour, 60 mile tour. 25 quid. You couldn't beat it with a big stick!
