The tailenders group decide to go to the island of Damar and then day hop the whole way to Lowoleba. It is too far upwind for me so I lay off course to go directly to Lowoleba, 450 miles away. At 0800 on 14th August I am passing the volcanic island of Gunung Api marking the halfway point. This next island has lots to offer and I will have much more time to go exploring. Being the first in the rally fleet to arrive I can do important research into the locations of the best bars and resturaunts.

A feature of sailing in the Indian Ocean at night is the bioluminescence, something I have been reading about. Basically the sea turns pure white and wave shapes disappear. It is like sailing through a field of virgin snow. Quite eerie.
