Life around the RQ

I can't take my boat out. I took a piece off the anchor windlass that looked like it needed replaced. It did need to be replaced. As did the piece under it. And the piece under that, and under that. Boats!

The juniors of Australia are sailing their National championships. In proper boats - Flying 11s. This is a two person, three sail boat. The proper way to learn sailing instead of silly single handed Toppers and the like. And model boat racing is held every Tuesday. Very high tech things and very competitive men driving them (no women).

I take my bike into the city to look around some more. Brisbane is very bike friendly with cycle tracks everywhere. The maritime museum has some interesting boats including a bright pink S&S 34 which a 17 year old girl circumnavigated in. So girls do get a look in. Sometimes. I go under the Storey Bridge designed by the same man who designed the Sydney Harbour Bridge. He became a millionaire. He was a paint salesman. Designing bridges was merely a means to an end.

On another day I cycle 14k to Wellington Point (some cycle track on boardwalk through wetlands) and at half tide ebbing I walk out to King's Island on the sandbar which dries out. I pronounce myself king, declare UDI and abolish all duty on rum. I am presently processing residency visas; demand is high.

I have a nice dinner with friends who sailed out here from the UK. But they now have a house with a swimming pool. Handy in this heat. Last night the lowest temperature recorded was 26 Centegrade. Sweaty or what?

In the meantime an endodontist has had a look at my botched root canal filling. He has a 75% chance of fixing it. But I will have to sell a kidney to pay for it...
