After leaving Suriname I headed 1,000 miles traight for Tobago. The advice was that British Guyana was too dangerous and I was not going to go into the Amazon River in a convoy of less than six boats. At the mouth of the Amazon I kept 150 miles offshore to be safe.
After clearing into Tobago I cruised around the island (so much paperwork), went to Trinidad for a refit and headed north island hopping at my leisure. For much of the time I was cruising in company particularly with Robert Fox on silver Harmony, a Contessa 32 and Trevor Robertson on Iron Bark, a Wylo 34. He had sailed single handed, non stop, from Port Stanley in the Falklands to Bequia
