Leaving Tonga

For some reason Tonga has more PHDs per capita than any other country! At this time of year fruit and veg are cheap here - for example organic tomatoes 95p for three kilos, cabbage 7p each. Tonga has chosen to be on the west side of the International Date line and so is the first country in the world to welcome the new day - the land where time begins.

But talking of time it is time for me to depart for New Zealand and I wave farewell to Susie who ends here cruise on Wild Fox right on schedule. The trip to New Zealand is very weather dependent but should take about 10 days. Some quite nasty weather can hit the north island and I may slow down or even take shelter in Minerva Reef, if need be, to let a bad system pass by. When I get there I will be meeting up with some other Junk Rig sailors and then it is off into the land of hill walking and some of the best white wines in the world. I have made a short list of 3,297 Sauvignon Blancs that I want to taste...
