On Monday we got up really early and packed up our camp at the Kimberley Waterfront Holiday Park, had a quick coffee at the coffee shack and headed for the bottle shop to replenish supplies (not open on Sundays).  Poor research!!! Bottle shops don’t open until 12….  Undaunted we headed into Coles and bought some non-alcoholic beer and wine (desperation drives folk to some strange choices).  We then drove the 340 km to the Bungle Bungles, Purnululu National Park, the last 60 or so being on a rough gravel road, necessitating a stop to drop the tyre pressures again.  We got there by 2:30 pm and did the short but impressive Cathedral Gorge walk.  We had been in two minds about whether to cut out the Bungle Bungles as we are getting a little bit pressed for time but it’s such an iconic Kimberley destination that we decided we couldn’t miss it, hence the long drive.  So glad we did.  Never seen a landscape like it.  Photos just don’t do it justice.  Just trying to imagine the forces that formed the landscape blows your mind.

The walk only took a couple of hours so we drove the 15km to the Walardi Bush campsite and set up camp for the night.  No showers here so it was a tent wash for Fi and wash in the bush after dark for John!

Here’s just a few photos.  We’ll post some more from our walk the next day.
