On the news this morning - a woman has been attacked by a shark in Sawmill Bay, Whitsunday Islands, where just a few days ago we were anchored and Fi was innocently paddling around on her stand-up paddle board. Last we heard she has survived thanks to prompt first aid and a rapid evacuation by helicopter, but with horrific injuries to her upper leg. Food for thought...

We had our laziest start for a while this morning, having slept in a proper bed for the first time since Cairns, which seems an age ago. After breakfast we had a tour of our hosts’ domain, a hilly 11 acres with stunning views out over the sea.

We then jumped in the car and drove to
Look at me now headland (that really is it’s name!) where I quickly found out that my usual Queensland shorts and T-shirt wasn’t up to fending off the stiff south-easterly breeze. We wandered past kangaroos grazing on the headland and observed the ominous cumulus building up out to sea.

After a coffee and bacon roll we had a drive around Coff’s Harbour where the yachts and the fishing boats seemed quite content in each other’s company, then with the sky darkening and the first spots of rain hitting the windscreen we arrived back at the house just before the heavens opened. Which is why I’ve got time to do this update.

Tomorrow we are heading for Sydney.
