Friday 30th June

We have decided to spend the next week before the new engine arrives pottering around our local waters.  We left Titchmarsh Marina 2 hours (12:30pm) after low water today and took the tide up the coast to the River Deben.  6-7 knots of wind from the south west gave us a gentle sail to the Woodbridge Haven buoy.  The same area of the sea crossed a few days ago, was in complete contrast.

We were not in a hurry and against the incoming tide we were making on average about 2 knots sog, as we could not enter the river until 2 hours before high water, the timing was perfect.  We motored sailed in to the river, the sight of the emerging sandbank to seaward kept us hard over to the shore. Once safely in the river, I reminded the skipper that it was in fact my watch! A lucky escape!

A quick telephone conversation with George (the Ramsholt Arms Harbour Master) and a buoy was secured for the night.  A quiet evening onboard with the promise of a trip ashore to stretch our legs tomorrow, that is of course, if the temporary replacement outboard behaves itself and starts.
