A foggy, slow and rather tedious day!  It is not that we want to be bashing to windward with water everywhere and I know that we should be grateful that we are not, but 2-3kts is a bit slow!  This gave us a days run of 88nm!  Not quite the 150nm of other passages.  The problem is simply that we would both like to be home now.  We are on the downhill slope having passed half way and if we can only keep on course, we only have 527nm to go to reach Falmouth.

 

Every cloud has a silver lining and having a level slow boat enabled me to while away some time making bread, in fact it took most of the day waiting for it to prove etc.  It gave Whisper a lovely cosy aroma and having the stove on warmed us up  a bit. The wind out here, what little there was, is extremely chill.

 

We encountered a ship last night in the fog.  We knew that one was somewhere around as it was picking up our SeaMe transmission.  An hour later, when Noel was on watch, the ship appeared on the AIS screen and his heading was rather to close for comfort.   Noel called the ship up on the radio and the Captain replied immediately, he could see us on his radar and said that he would alter course and pass to starboard of us, which he did.  The ship only became visible when it was abeam of us 2 miles away.  The benefits of modern electronics on board is enormous, it is impossible to see other shipping in these large Atlantic swells.  It makes one wonder how our predecessors managed, I certainly would not have liked to be on Crows Nest duty.

 

All is well on board, spirits are up and this morning we are bowling along at 6-7kts homeward bound; the sun is showing signs that it might break through the cloud!  ("Hello Mother, hello Father, here we are at Camp Grenada!")
