"Slowing Down"

The seas have died down and the wind is now only 10-15kts, this has made life on board more comfortable and dryer but means that our progress is a little slower.  Reefs have been shaken out, save one in the main (our secret weapon) and there is much tweaking of sails going on.  Hours are now being counted as to when we will arrive and a list of individual priorities are being made.  Mine is to find the launderette and wash and dry my sleeping bag which is rather sodden I noticed when I stretched my feet out to the bottom the other night - its tough out here on the ocean!  Then whilst that is washing, I shall have a long, long shower and get the salt out of my hair which has been more than a week without being brushed - it is really, really tough out here!  In case you are wondering - yes, I have wondered why on earth I am doing this.  May be it is because it highlights that the most simplest of things in life are a real luxury!

There is quite a lesson to be learnt about horizons and how short they become when the ocean swell is high and makes me glad that we have AIS on board.  Sandro was on watch the other night, when the AIS picked up that a ship was in the area.  He kept an eye out for it but never saw its lights, despite the fact that it past us only two miles away!  On a calmer sea we would have been able to see it some 15 miles away.

All is well onboard and we are chugging along at just 5kts with only 252 miles to go!
