"We Are On Our Way"

Our relaxation day playing golf and walking yesterday was grey and slightly damp but very enjoyable and knowing that the island needs the rain to survive the summer, makes it far more pleasant.  The wind had dropped making crossing the harbour in Rustle much easier, so that we no longer felt concerned about delivering Sandro and his luggage on board without getting him soaked in sea water.  As Whisper was all set to go, it was great to be distracted by playing golf, it certainly took our minds off the impending voyage. Getting started is the difficult and stressful part, but once on our way we can just get on with what ever needs to be done.

The BA flight arrived on time at 18:30 and Eric and Janice were with us to welcome Sandro for his very brief visit to Bermuda.  The skies had cleared and the evening sun was out and we all spent a very pleasant last evening together taking a short walk around the Nature Reserve at Coopers Island before enjoying a meal at the Black Horse Restaurant.

The night was flat calm and we woke up to blue skies, very little wind and a calm sea in the harbour.  We enjoyed a brief walk around the town, checked out at Customs and Immigration and returned to Whisper, where we stowed Rustle on deck, had the inevitable British cup of tea whilst we decided that there was nothing left to do except to go!   We called up Bermuda Harbour Radio to ask permission to leave the harbour and were wished a safe journey as we motored out of The Cut to the open sea.  It was 11am and we were on our way with only 1665nm to go!

Thank you to everyone, who by either text, phone, email or voice has wished us fair winds and a safe voyage.

With full sails set, the seas are gentle and the wind is gently pushing us on our easterly course at around 4-5 knots, Windy Bill is back in commission - it couldn't be a better start to our voyage.

As I write this note, Bermuda is just disappearing from our view.  We really have enjoyed our stay here.  Our friends have made us so very welcome and ensured that we have had an enjoyable stay.  Their kindness and generosity is very much appreciated and will always be remembered, especially as we tuck into Hinson Island fresh produce of homegrown strawberries and prepare the onions!  Thank you Janice and Eric, we hope it won't be too long before we meet again.
