Just tidied up the mess around the boom.  The cast goose neck fitting has sheared in two and so no way of fixing the boom to the mast. 

 

Looked at alternative of diverting to Cape Verde Islands but rejected as they are some 700 miles away and we have a “lash up rigged” – consisting of two shackles.  Now dark so will sort out the damage to top of the boom vang in the morning.

 

So unlikely to be beating the 24 hour run from yesterday – speed now a mere 6 knots – but we’ll have a more comfortable night.
