Well we  the crew (Tim and I) have been allowed out of the fo’c’sle for a brief moment – we share independent cabins and a family bathroom before the mast. Our bunks feature air sprung mattresses i.e we spend 50% of the time in the air as we fall off each wave. Tim shares his with the spare anchor – I have both spinnakers for company.

The regime here is strict – our passports were confiscated on arrival and we are forced to wear lifejackets with crotch straps and tethers / lifelines rendering our appearance akin to children en route to nursery. The skipper’s appearance is that of the average line up at a London soup kitchen. His glamorous wife is feeding us suspiciously well, frequent references to following the route of the slave traders makes us wonder at our end destination / fate. Our major reward is delicious ginger cake but we are sadly running out – if Grace’s Mummy is reading this please dispatch more by air freight.

Our duties include much conflict with ‘ealth and safety issues and we have yet to have a day off. Generally conditions are like being in a caravan being towed across a ploughed field at 30mph. Opening any locker results in a deluge of cutlery and worse.

if you are there Simon, your name crops up hourly, but rest assured the writer is defending your reputation at every turn (and has eaten all the GN’s). Your knowledge of undersea mountains is worrying MM and completely  superfluous to our needs, but do keep it up, it frightens the hell out of Grace.

Till we escape again

Yours
