An early start The water on the west coast is fabulously clear and great for swimming in so with 3 children on board at the moment we decided to have a watery day at a Cala not far from Puerto de Soller. It was about an hour south and we left early to ensure we had a prime position as we were sure it would be busy......
Of course, Colin and Harry are always there whatever the time. Harry loves his sailing and is having a great time on the boat. By the way, they have moved since the last picture when they were sat in this position!!!!!
The trip down was unfortunately by motor as there was not a breath of wind to be had. This is beginning to become the norm as we get into the hottest temperatures.
Heading SW down the west coast of Mallorca. Great temperatures early in the day, flat seas and magnificent views.
Cala Deya We arrive just before 09:00hrs to find a completely deserted Cala other than for a few people on the stoney beach. So it was choose the prime spot and put the anchor down.
Captain Marky looking very pleased at such a beautiful anchorage for the day and the only boat there..........
Hmmmm, the anchor goes down which wakes Beth. "Have we arrived yet?" says a very sleepy Beth.......
The Cala was truly wonderful. Surrounded by steep volcanic cliffs, crystal clear water and a sandy/rocky sea bed with lots and lots of colourful fish. Charlie, Harry and Beth couldn't wait to get in the water but it was a light breakfast first before the swimming was to start...
Let the swimming commence
Crystal clear water that Cathy was obviously enjoying.
Charlie, Beth and Harry also enjoying the clear and warm water.
The Halyard Swing In a place like this where there is no one else about the screams of joy don't matter as there is nobody else to upset. The 3 kids in particular were having a great time playing today. The adults just swam about trying to work off last nights bottom of Rioja!!!!!!!
However, a new game evolved which meant hanging off the spinnaker halyard and jumping off the bow of Watermark IV. The trick was to hold on tight, swing out as far as you can and let go before hitting the side of the boat like something out of a Tom and Jerry cartoon........ All completed the challenge several times successfully.
Harry and Charlie swing out as far as they dare.......
Beth manages a go and drops into the water safely.... However, not wanting to miss out on the action, Pooh Bear also decides to have a go at this one......... "Good on you Poo..!!!!!" Meanwhile....Colin and Cathy paced up and down watching the kids with their hearts in their mouths trying not to look..The only words..."Let Gooooooooooo". Captain Marky was in the water swimming around doing a life guard impression.
Fishing As the day wore on a few other boats arrived. No surprise as the Cala was a true gem.
But, yes, in a place like this it was a certainty that the fishing rods would come out.... Indeed, out they came and within minutes Beth, Harry and Charlie had their first fish.
Easy pickings on the fish front in Cala Deya.
BUT, even though all wanted to fish, nobody wanted to deal with the fish once in the net!!!!!!! Yet again, Colin and Marky had to save the fish by removing the hook and throwing it back into the water......
It was truly a fun day at Cala Deya and all that remained was the sail back to Peurto de Soller. A wind had now picked up late in the day and Watermark sprung to life beating upwind at 6knts with a gentle heel. At one point we had "I'm too sexy for my shirt" from Right Said Fred screaming from the cockpit speakers with all on board dancing around the decks as Colin decided to dance around the bow. Yes, I know, Mad dogs and Englishmen!!!!!!
Colin, Beth and Harry on the way back to Peurto Soller after a great day out together......
Watermark IV's permanent crew on their way back to Peurto de Soller.
