Title: Pollansa Old Town

Update
Pollansa has turned out to be a great stopover. The harbour is relatively flat and the boat stays pretty much stable whatever the winds. There are many places to visit and the seabed has good holding so we are happy to leave the boat at anchor and go off and do things.

However, since arriving, the weather has not been good. We all sit here right now with the rain pouring down outside but that is good news for me. Keeping the boat clean has proven to be a nightmare and the dew overnight brings down an orange sandy dust which just gets everywhere. I am constantly cleaning the stainless steel fittings with fresh water and the boat seems to have a skin of salt all over it..........So, a day of rain to wash the mast and rigging of salt and to clean the boat is much appreciated. I've spent the morning scrubbing the deck, getting rid of the salt and then letting the fresh water rain drench the whole boat.

As they say "Every cloud........."

Pirate Look Out and Protection Forces
Lots of emails have asked us about the pirates as in Somalia...........No surprise that Watermark IV is tooled up and ready to cope with all eventualities. We have our own dedicated Royal Marines onboard - just as Lord Nelson did on HMS Victory in Trafalgar.

"Marine Charlie" on Watermark IV training exercises off the north coast of Mallorca......

When Charlie is in combat mode he also takes on Search and Rescue duties and recently had to go and recover a three seater lilo that was blowing across the water, obviously lost from the beach area.

The Search & Rescue team of Marine Charlie and William (from Classified II) having recovered a three headed lilo.

Unfortunately, the recovery of this lilo was not all good news. Doug (from Classified II) thought he'd have a go at jumping into it with the result of traumatising 3 of his toes which were bent back in a way that they shouldn't have been. €174's later they were all strapped up at the local medical clinic.............."How old are you Doug?" Pollansa Old Town
3 miles away is the old town of Pollansa, as opposed to the Port of Pollansa. Just a short bus ride away, Pollansa is tucked between 2 hills, each topped with a scared site. Cafe life appears to be the rule here and we spent a long 2hrs having some lunch in the main square. The town has a very Roman origin which can be seen in some of the old brickwork around the town.

Walking one of the many narrow streets with one of the scared hills in the background. Is that Cathy in white again with Dough?

The town's main square surrounded by fashionable cafe's. The white streamers hang across are designed to create some shade without blocking out the sun altogether.

Pollansa's main church just off the town centre.

More typical Pollansan street views with surrounding hills in the background.

As the sun got hotter, it was time to head back to the boat and a generally cooler environment onboard Watermark IV. We caught the bus back to the port area, a quick shop in the local Eroski supermarket and took Waterwinky back out to the bay.

Once back on board and after a long day walking , Charlie was in desperate need for some foot pampering which mum was more than happy to obliged to.............

Charlie enjoying the delights of Watermark's onboard foot and spa specialist - Cathy........Obviously the San Miguel is the secret ingredient to the soaking process..
"Oh yes......" says Charlie " Perfect end to the day on Watermark IV the cruise liner.."
