Typee
If you want an idea of what life was like on the Polynesian Islands do read Herman Melville’s Typee. It is free on Amazon for Kindle and it gives great background to how life was prior to the European influence. An easy read too! I think Kindles are such a great invention, how else could I have got a copy? It has certainly explained a lot of the things I didn’t understand about life on the islands. Especially how careful Missionaries have to be.

Watches
We are finding it difficult with sleeping at the abnormal times to keep up with sleep. I am sure we will settle back into the routine, but it is a shame there isn’t a button to adjust the body clock.

Polynesian Pacific Magellan Net
We are now the furthest boat West from our group and as such many are asking for traffic with us after the Network scheduled times. David deals with this and he has become a dab hand at the slightly CB radio American terms used. “Roger That, Copy, Standing By” to name a few. Not at all British radio speak! Today he was advising an American Yacht, Good As Gold about clearing out in Bora Bora. We are not experts but have a good pilot and have been there. Their difficulty is that as they are not EU Citizens they require and a visa and a bond has to be paid which is refunded when they clear out officially. Their visa is expiring and they will have cleared out but want to go to two more islands in the chain. What do we know not requiring visas? But that doesn’t stop advice being give and passages read from the pilot. The Wandering Dream Citizen’s Advice Bureaux.

Miles travelled in the last 24hrs: 113 miles. The wind has increased a little and we are regularly getting the Trade Winds on the beam (centre side of the boat) so our speed increased last night. Let’s hope I can report good passage miles tomorrow.
