Good progress westwards now being made. We kept the
cruising chute up all night with our fingers crossed that we would not encounter
a squall. We didn't, so no problem. St Lucia now only about 1700 miles
away!
We have now crossed 30W which means that our local
noon is two hours after London, because the sun rises an hour later for every 15
degrees of longitude. Hitherto we have kept GMT/UT on the boat but this means
that it is now not daylight until after 0800hrs, so we decided today to put our
clocks back an hour at 1300GMT. Local noon (the time when the sun passes our
meridian of longitude) will today therefore be 1256hrs ship's time. Alison is on
Mother Watch today, so at 1200hrs 'old time' she stepped in to do Watch for an
hour until the clock went back at 1300hrs, at which time the afternoon 12-3
Watch started. Easy. But we're still an hour out, so before we reach St Lucia
we'll have to catch up, and then make two further changes in order to match
local time there. But at 6knots, absolutely no jet
lag.
