Rodrigues is a small hilly place, only about 20km x 5km with a population of 38 000. There is only a small airfield, not big enough for jets, so almost everything except people comes in and out by sea from Mauritius. Here is the harbour with the ship in, seen from the top of VS’s mast:

The yachts are all anchored in what is called the harbour. In reality it is a small turning circle gouged out of the coral for the use of the freighter. Every time it enters and leaves all the yachts have to up-anchor and go to sea for an hour or two. There are about two ship movements weekly resulting in quite a bit of coming and going. But it’s a great safe and convenient anchorage, so we’re happy.

And here is the ship from the quay, with loading underway. These converted containers are used to transport livestock, mainly cattle, to Mauritius - a one day trip downwind, but over two days upwind in the opposite direction. The cattle go on last to give them air. Amazing they seem to take it all very calmly.
