We have recently spent some time on the island of Taveuni in eastern Fiji which has the unusual distinction of sitting astride the 180 degrees meridian of longitude - ie.on the far side of the world from Greenwich. There is very little land on this meridian which ought in pinciple to be the International Date Line - but this has been transferred to the east to keep all of Fiji on the same day. But it's one of Taveuni's few claims to fame. Here is the Meridian Store, "The First Shop To Open In The World".

It's run, of course, like most shops in Fiji, by a family of Indian extraction.
