More mouse news A Post script

Valentine has lent us a mouse trap; actually more like a trap for a serious marsupial, ie a rat. A rat!!! True Blue does NOT do rats!! Anyway for the next 3 days we faithfully bait it each night, and leap out of bed in eager anticipation every morning. But alas, the longed-for corpse is always absent! The resourceful Frank offers some fail-proof peanut butter, and our problem is the talk of the daily radio sked as our friends offer advice. Adam on Bravo advises us to tie the peanut butter on the mouse trap with string so that the mouse cannot simply lick it off without springing the trap. We follow his tip that night but in the morning.....nilch. Just a fresh set of little droppings to tease us....but at least our food is protected as Suzie has encased everything that has a chewable packet in plastic click clack containers. But still the score is Mouse 9, True Blue 0.

Marsupial success!!

We spend a delightful evening on Frank’s boat, chewing the yachtie fat as always whilst the rum rations get depleted. In desperation we had set the mouse trap before we left True Blue, despite the fact it was still broad daylight. We return some hours later and SUCCESS!!! There is a slender pale grey marsupial lying dead, very dead in the trap! Robin calculates that he/she is about 6 ins long plus has a 6 inch tail so maybe we have hosted a small rat not a mouse....never mind, we have finally won; True Blue 10, Mouse 0!  Even if it was a she, any off spring will not survive as she has not been on board long enough to raise a litter. Amazing how such simple things can bring delirious satisfaction on a boat!! Must be out of touch with the real world somehow!
