12/09/13 Monaco Bay, Komodo Isle

I left Labuan Bajo at 0600 and dropped the hook at 1515.

Now the house batteries were flat this morning but the engine battery succeeded in starting the engine. Hmmm. Motored out of the anchorage and after about 7 or 8 mins the transmission warmed up and away we went. Good oh! After an hour I could sail so I switched off the donk and yes, the starter battery had enough juice to stop it. And start it two more times. What!!!

OK, enter the trusty multimeter. Hang on a minute, the alternator was now live and charging the starter battery. Was this because I had steady engine revs and NO SURGING? Possibly. I connected the starter battery to the house bank and yes, the house bank was being charged as well. Blimey guv’nor. Not sure what 4 hours motoring at higher revs has done to my fuel consumption though.

Right, difficult to find sand here. I’m amongst the coral at the moment but shouldn’t damage anything. The downside is the anchor has not dug in but it’s calm and I’m here for a night. After a quick bit of planning I think I’m off tomorrow for three day hops of around 40nm then a 160nm jobbie to Bali. Or shift around a bit here and find some sand tomorrow, have a day snorkelling and maybe straight to Bali which will be about 270nm. Don’t know yet. I thought I might see Lop To here but they aren’t and it’s possible that Calypso will show up tomorrow. They were keen to try and do mainly day hops and they have the coordinates for this anchorage. I think it depends what sort of night I have.
