Happy New Year

We now have a better plan (at least for the next five minutes!)
We managed to locate a hire car & do last minute shopping on New Years Eve
(beer, bread, fruit and some meat...oh, and some beer!). There were NO
PARTIES in Spanish Water and the yacht club ran out of beer at 1900 hrs,
so Si & the crew from Honalee (another OCC boat) used the hire car to go
into town. I didn't go because I got fed up with kids throwing fireworks
and firecrackers going off all the time. Bloody noisy and not at all
entertaining (Bah, Humbug). Sammie the Seal had what can only be described
as a mega-blonde moment booking her flight, so is now planning on joining
us in Cartegena. The original booking seemed to involve leaving St John's
(USVI) just before the ferry got in from St Croix (DOH!)
Anyway, today is a public holiday, 'what I have spent' making potato salad
and coleslaw for the forthcoming trip. Tomorrow (2nd) we check out first
thing in the morning then have a five hour sail up the Curacao coast,
anchor overnight and head off the morning of the third for Cabo de la
Vela, Colombia. From there, we have a five-stop plan to Cartegena,
hopefully easy (ish) long day sails (well, 24 hours is a day, 'innit'. OK,
a couple of easy mid-day to mid-day sails, so that's overnight sails,
then!)
Could well be in Cartegena by the 10th/12th Jan. A few days there then on
to the San Blas Islands by about 20th Jan, a mere month later than I had
originally planned, Hey Ho!
The weather continues to be warm and sunny (sorry, I just had to say
that). The offshore winds are a little strong for today & tomorrow, but
are dropping down to a forecast 10-15kts from the 3rd until the 7th Jan
(so that in reality means 20kts of wind 'up the chuff', which is a good
thing. More (invariably) later. Oh yes, I downloaded a copy of 'Compass',
the Caribbean monthly 'yottin rag'. My article on Guyana is in there. I
will be posting a list of questions to make sure you've all read it :)
