Calve on the north west tip of Corsica is a stunning location and the best place to be with the best view is to be on a yacht anchored in the bay. In the marina at the foot of the citadel you can conveniently walk off the boat but you cant enjoy the beauty of looking at the location from across the water.

From the bay you can see the old town, the citadel, marina and the horseshoe shaped bay with a backdrop of fields, trees and vegetation layered into the Corsican mountains.

On our first day we stayed on board as the strong wind and weather wasn’t ideal to make the transfer. On the second day we dinghies to shore just before a heavy shower but the sun came back out and we enjoyed a long visit ashore, the dinghy transfer to the harbour was worth the distance.

The waterfront is lined with bars and restaurants and behind it starts the narrow streets and alleyways which wind there way up through the old town to the citadel. The atmosphere and surroundings of the old town are similar to Bonifacio.

Calve has more shops along the main small street, all very chic, french and full of interesting interior objects, fabrics, clothes and quality holiday momentos.

We visited the citadel where there was an exhibition of the French Legionnaires with both historic and present day information. In my younger years I only knew the French foreign legion as being something our victorian gentlemen ran away too.

After visiting the battlements we looked down across the stunning bay towards Tioram.

Really stunning location.
