We slipped our lines from Porto Vechhio marina at 11.45 hrs to head north up the coast of Corsica.
We woke to rain and drizzle......you know that wet funny stuff that we thankfully never see. We needed to leave the dock before the 12 noon cut off for the nightly price of €102.
As we left the dock we had torrential rain, although warm, we got soaked.
The forecast showed stronger winds again so we needed to find a nice sheltered bay with good sandy bottom holding.
We motored into the lovely bay of Baie de San Ciprianu and anchored in the middle of the bay on sand. The wind blew as forecast and we payed out plenty of chain. Overnight we had low 20s true knots, all fine, but I didn't sleep too well even though we set anchor watch alarms and high wind speed alarms. Tony sleeps like a baby unless the alarm goes off......he's built for the sea bless him, but probably knows I'll be up several times to check out position. Hmmmm!
The wind switch went off finally at 18.30 hrs on 30th and we enjoyed a lovely evening at anchor in this lovely bay. On 31st in the late afternoon, I smelt the first scent of pine as the wind had reduced and was coming from the west, from the lovely mountain range around the bay.
The scent of the land and of toasted herbs was a regular pleasure in Greece. In Sardinia the wind has been too strong to enjoy any scents, surprisingly. The scent in Ciprianu marked the start of true summer.
Once the wind had died, the French came out in force with their beach life, ribs and watersports.
We took our dinghy to the shore, saw some lovely beach restaurants of a chic quality and beach life in full holiday mode and enjoyed our first swim of the summer.
