The capital of Kefalonia is the town of Argostoli.  It is a working town with local life, commercial life and tourism. The tourism and cruise liner quay has led to a more cosmopolitan café culture.

The town has ‘grown on us’ and we like the ‘feel’ of the Greek life there. It is less visited by yachts as it is on the west side of Kefalonia, away from the other eastern islands and a long sail from other ports and bays on Kefalonia.

See the photos below taken of the frenetic morning activities around the fruit market and bakeries.  Local people pull up anywhere, just stopping, leaving their cars in the road, the traffic comes to a standstill, people hoot horns. Scooters pull up choose their fruit /veg and speed away. Couples go by; families of 4 go by…….but on scooters!!

Tony and I felt that if we had been transported into it, we wouldn’t have known what country we were in……. almost a bit third world or Indian…..any way we got some interesting photos.

On the waterfront we saw the large loggerhead turtles being fed by locals. We got some great photos. One sadly had a few knocks and dents in his shell and blue anti foul on his shell and head.

The turtle protection group were monitoring them.

After 2 nice days we set sail to head north to the Island of Levkas. We are not normally on the west coast of Kefalonia, so we took the opportunity to sail/motor up the west coast in a very light forecast.
