Hi Everyone,

 

We said goodbye to the lovely Island of Folegandros and set sail for the Island of Sikinos. The NW wind was around 14 knots true with 20 knot gusts, moderate sea state. So we sailed with 2 reefs and genoa as the wind increased to 30 knot gusts.

 

We sailed the 12 N miles to Skala a small bay on Sikinos. The bay gave good shelter from the Meltemi, a great sandy bay with good holding. We continued to have strong gusts but between them we managed to swim in clear water, just like a swimming pool, sandy bottom, no ‘fish with teeth’ , so I was very happy !!!

 

There is a distinct lack of any kind of sea life here. No fish at all and so sadly no dolphins..... in fact we have only seen 4 in the Gulf of Corinth and none in the Aegean.

But the big plus----- no barracudas like the Caribbean--- bliss for my Steven Spielberg phobia.

 

With an anchor well dug in and snorkelled on, the wind increased again during the night, touching 25 knots, with Tony on anchor watch, on deck, and the 2 of us not getting much sleep.

So the next morning we left what could be a lovely anchorage--- on a calm day that is---- and set sail for the Island Of Naxos.
