Hi Everyone

Our friends Patryk and Amanda arrived by ferry from Athens on 11th. It was a real treat to see them again as the last time we were together was at Caine Garden, Tortola in the BVI’s, Caribbean, before they headed North and we sailed back to Antigua.
Those of you who sailed on the ARC, Atlantic crossing will remember Patryk, Amanda and the crew of ‘Circus of Southampton’.
We had a great reunion, catching up on news and reminiscing about the Caribbean and Atlantic crossings.

Poros town on Poros sits on a small volcanic peninsular and so forms a particularly nice venue for yachts. The town quay/waterfront is lined with lots of yachts who are stern to the cafes, bars and restaurants and the houses of the town stacked up on the hillside behind.
The small ferries run between the town and the beaches in the large bay and to Galatas, on the mainland at the narrowest point a channel of only 250 metres. In fact Poros takes it’s name from the ‘passage’ or ‘strait’ --- or ‘poros’.
It is a very photogenic place, especially nice from the water. The only disadvantage is the large ferries coming in from the islands and Athens kick up a fair old surge and this coupled with increased wind leads to fun and games on the quay. We saw a large motor yacht have a jet ski bounce off its transom, left dangling on a pasarelle crane line--- then wedged between the quay and the surging motor yacht.  They got it back on-board but sadly not without damage to both the jet ski and the boat.
Yachts also wedge into any 6ft gaps left between our boat and others, one with a 14ft beam even removing our mooring lines whilst we’re out to squeeze in, leaving only inches between. So before any ferry surge we decided to leave and anchor safely in the bay.

A lovely place to see and explore by boat and easily accessed by ferry, well worth a visit.

Love to all
