Overnight train to Marrakech

Once in Tangier we had to take the overnight train to Marrakech.

We had arranged for transport to take us to the train station and we adjusted our watches to the local time. We found a nice coffee shop along the water front to hang out until time for our train.

Be prepared! We were well equipped with wipes and hand sterilizes. Once on the train we found that the cosy cabin could just about fit the four of us if only two people were standing at anyone time. Still, we all intended to sleep for the whole journey anyway.

To be fair the sheets seemed clean and the pillow was quite good.  Once the train started we all went to bed there was no room to sit.  This was just like camping!

There were several stops along the way and we are sure that the engine at some point was changed over to the front of the train. Anyway, we arrived in Marrakech around 8am and another pre-arranged driver was waiting for us to whisk us to our hotel.

Ten minutes later we were in the 5 star ‘Hotel Medinas and Spa’. Morocco 5 stars are our probably ‘our’ 4 stars but the hotel was actually not bad at all- if a little basic and tired. Everyone was very efficient and we were given our rooms straight away to we could freshen up ready for the first part of our whirlwind tour.

We had arranged for a guide to take us into the old part of the city “the Medina“.
