Grenada.

The next day we went to Grenada.
(Thanks Bob, for driving again!)

John  & I came here last year and we were looking forward to another visit.
The drive through the Sierra Nevada mountains range is breathtaking. When we entered the city and were trying to find a parking spot and were sitting in a traffic queue a local tourist information man on a moped came next to us and asked us if we needed help.
For 10 euros he offered to take us to the centre and to find a central car park.  What a hoot!
We followed him all the way down tiny street after tiny street, many of which were only open to taxis under normal circumstances and then we were at a great car park. He even gave us the directions to Alhambra for later.

Having left La Linea pretty early we stopped at the first café we could find and got coffee and croissants. Having refueled we walked towards the “Albycin” area the ancient Arab and Moorish quarter of Granada. It was a picturesque maze of streets and whitewashed houses.
It’s located on a hill among baroque churches with renaissance palaces and Arab minarets.

Our next stop was Grenada Cathedral only to be disappointed as they were shutting for a siesta! We were too late to go in.
But still we had Alhambra to visit again!

Knowing Alhambra would be a 3-hour visit we set off on the short drive out of the city.
We then queued for our tickets the palace was full for the day!

We now know that you have to book in advance if you want any chance of getting into the palace.  The palace is stunning and we could not believe that after telling Bob & Cathy that no trip to Spain would be complete without visiting Alhambra – then we couldn’t!
We had driven along way!

We left Grenada and headed for the tourist town of Marbella for dinner.
