Datca turned out to be a super little town with lots of great taverns and shops and no nightclubs (ooohhh!).

We anchored in the small bay.
The wind overnight was the square root of zero but for some reason I just had a feeling about the anchor set.
We hadn’t moved but I ‘felt’ the need to snorkel down and check it.  Just as well because I found the anchor sitting on the surface of the loose sand with a little crater around it. We had been anchored on the weight of the chain and the anchor during the night.
We lifted the anchor and found another spot still in the bay but a little further away from the shore line.
Then we gave the anchor a good tug on the chain. Set!

As we were anchoring in our latest position an elderly couple sailed in to take our place at the previous position.
John thinks, “Let’s hope they have better luck there than us”.
Safely in our new anchorage John went down below to attend to a few jobs.
A few hours later we noticed that same sailboat surrounded by the coastguard and several RIBS but a lot further out to sea. The elderly couple’s boat had dragged it’s anchor past all the other boats including ours whilst they had gone ashore during the last couple of hours and was making it’s way to Egypt or somewhere!

We then saw the couple franticly rowing out to their boat.

Clearly unfazed, the couple simply went back to the exact same spot to re-anchor and went ashore again.
Ah Bliss!

We anchored in Datca for three nights. On the last evening Peter & Jean took us out for an anniversary dinner. It was a beautiful restaurant overlooking the harbor and “Timeless”. The food was the best we’d had in weeks!
What a super place to stay.

I’d love to go back one day.
