One week since we left Yarmouth Harbour and we have had a "day off" i.e. instead of upping anchor and heading anywhere we have had a very pleasant day in St Mawes. After a morning bobbing about at anchor we took the dinghy and pottered up river to explore, finding some lovely houses and boat yards tucked away around the corner, then came ashore for a picnic lunch.

It is spring low tide so many of the rock pools were exposed and Harry and Isabelle began to collect mussles, after a while we had 2kg which we decided to cook. Thanks to Negar and Caroline the recipe was confirmed and a very successful meal was enjoyed by all four of us, much to the children's surprise. We weren't sure they thought they were going to like them, especially after digging them out of the seaweed, then helping scrape off the barnacles and mud, it seemed an unlikely dinner initially, but their enthusiasm was impressive and it was rewarding to see them tucking in.

Tomorrow will be busy with a haul out booked for 8.45am across the river at Mylor Marina to scrub the boat, then collect mail, buy fresh veggies and back here to St Mawes and prepare for our departure from the UK; our first night sail as we cross to Ushant and NW France.
