Anchored in Bayona, first day ashore

Today began with an alarm clock rather shockingly, Harry was determined to join the fishermen before sunrise to try some dawn fishing. I rowed over to a group of other boats, quietly stemming the breeze and ebb tide while Harry cast his rod, we also trolled a rod and had six feathers dangling beneath us. I was very impressed with him, he had thought and planned the whole expedition, I was just sad for him that we didn't catch anything. We're going to give it another go tomorrow with a slightly different configuration.

Bol got a fright yesterday, he bit on a slice of Chorizio and broke off a bit of tooth. He wasn't in pain but didn't want to risk heading off-shore with a dodgy tooth so tried his luck at walking into a clinic on the seafront ~ he was seen straight away! Delightful and helpful dental staff of Dr Fernando Hernandez Vallejo at "Clinica Dental" couldn't have been more accommodating, he had four X-rays and then the tooth was drilled and refilled, he was in and out within an hour and a half and it cost 65 Euros. Therefore highly recommending him should anyone find themselves in Bayona with a broken tooth!

Thank you to Alexander, Tuyi and Jenny for sending a package to us c/o Monte Real Club de Yates with valuable contents, including a longer razor should I be allowed near Harry's hair again. The yacht club and marina lie under the defensive walls at the harbour entrance, we plan to spend our last night there, and just hope we can 'match their dress code' in the bar with our rather tired looking clothes.

We had an excellent visit to the replica of the ship "The Pinta" which lies in the centre of the harbour commemorating Columbus's return in 1493 from the newly discovered 'West Indies'. We scrambled all over and it helped bring the story alive which we've been reading for the last few weeks.

Happy Hour in the cockpit as we calculated we have cracked our first thousand miles; we have sailed 1,005 miles from Yarmouth Harbour.
