42:47.131N 009:02.958W Ria de Muros The title of today's blog entry is unanimous: TWO months since leaving Yarmouth Harbour TEN mackerel caught this evening FOUR glasses of wine to celebrate.... In the wake of the giant shrimp skulduggery, tonight's fabulous haul of mackerel is 100% true and will go down in Harry and Isabelle's memory as one of the best days of their life ~ their first mackerel catch followed by the best meal imaginable. We are now at anchor just outside Muros and ready to leave in the morning. Harry asked if he could follow TC from the Marina to the anchorage in the dinghy (about 1 mile) so he and Isabelle followed at a distance towing their fishing rods. It was very special to see their faces as they came up to TC both shrieking that they'd caught two mackerel, both speaking at once at the tops of their voices, it was difficult to work out what had happened exactly! Harry asked to go out again and Bol went with them with his fishing rod. About half an hour later when the three returned to TC, Isabelle handed me the bucket and it was HEAVY.. eight more mackerel. Wow, what a haul :-) Bol then began the task of preparing the fish, and to give them their due, Harry and Isabelle did their bit, cutting off heads and gutting. Ten mackerel were cooked and six consumed at supper, they were absolutely delicious, the rest are in the fridge for lunch tomorrow (fridge turned on for such a special occasion). We celebrated with some white wine, the children had 1cm each. Leo sailed away today in his engine-less 1947 23ft Folkboat this morning, heading to Porto. If you ever get around to reading this Leo, this is just to let you must know that you have been an inspiration to us all and we are all terribly impressed by what you are doing. It is meeting people like Leo that will make this trip so special, memorable and interesting. Tomorrow we leave Muros after two and a half weeks. |
