St Vaast

Thank you to Lucy for letting us know it was the French Mothering Sunday today ~ not that it made much difference to life on board but Isabelle did disappear to her bunk for a while and return with a beautiful home made card!

It was a bit damp and dreary this morning, so we had a walkabout town managing to get to most shops just as they were shutting, including the amazing Madame Gosselin, a beautiful delicatessen type shop. The same happened four years ago, we walked in five minutes before closing time, and tomorrow Lundi she is closed! Just as well as we would blow our tight budget on lots of things we never knew we needed.

There was much fascination watching an 'Aquabus' coming ashore, it takes visitors to one of the outlying islands, it has propellers at the back and wheels underneath. There was an interesting collection of boats at the boat yard, and a tiny chapel right on the seawall with candles, flowers and plaques to folk from the town lost at sea.

Thanks to the rain, a Messerschmitt 109 is starting to take shape in the saloon.

Tomorrow's weather looks good for the journey to Ouistreham, the lock gate opens here in the morning so we will head out around 9am and ghost along the coast, hopefully the visibility will be better than today for viewing the landing beaches.
