Victoria Marina, St Peter Port, Guernsey

For a change of scene this morning we went to the beautiful Candie Gardens nearby, it is a lovely public space filled with beautiful trees, flower beds, Victorian greenhouses, ponds full of fish and great views over to Herm and Sark. Victor Hugo lived in Guernsey for 15 years and there was an incredibly life-like statute of him on one of the lawns. With two enormous cruise liners parked off St Peter Port all day, town was bursting with visitors.

At Low Water Bol was pacing up and down on the 'haul out pad' at the foot of the harbour wall in the marina with his tape measure trying to envisage TC out on the railway sleeper grid. An alternative is to dry her out onto shingle which means we don't have to worry about getting our fin keel sitting exactly on the sleepers. There seem to be plenty of rings on the harbour wall to tie onto but whichever we decide to do, it is going to be rather nerve racking having never done it before.

Victoria Marina has a sill and once the tide has risen sufficiently to allow boats to float over it, there is a sudden influx and it can be quite exciting as the harbour chaps buzz around at high speed directing traffic. Last night a few of us were nipping here and there catching lines, fending off, and generally trying to be helpful to the new arrivals ~ worryingly it was just as well Bol had removed Geoff the wind vane from the back of TC as it would have definitely been crushed if we hadn't been here!

We're delighted to see Thursday's Child is mentioned in Sailing Today's 'Dispatches' and many thanks to Pat and Trevor for giving us their copy.
