Cherbourg day 2

It was a good feeling to wake up this morning knowing that TC was safely secured alongside in Cherbourg. Tomorrow the three families will be reunited; Bol and the children arrive midday, Hans heads back to the Isle of Wight and Fred goes by train to Holland.

Therefore today we got down to business of cleaning and sorting the boat. The two chaps did a brilliant job of mending the 'Furlex' self-furling jib drum which had jammed 10hrs out of Cherbourg. We got away lightly as it could have jammed mid-Biscay, or further down the coast. It was (simply) a question of dismantling and rebuilding the drum in the calmness of a marina and it now as good as new ~ two brilliant mechanical brains working on the problem had it sorted in no time.

Later we had a pleasant walk around town and have just returned from a memorable three course meal at a delightful restaurant overlooking the old marina in town. What a really lovely way to end what turned out to be a very happy few weeks, the three of us have really got on very well and turned the 1,000 mile trip into a very enjoyable experience, I have certainly learnt a huge amount.

So many thanks to Hans and Fred for helping sail TC north, to Wil, Johannes and Kara for sending Fred, and Jenny, Matthew and Jessica for sending Hans! The "Dream TC Delivery Team" :-)
