Portimao

We spent the morning hunkered down in the marina while the wind howled but are now feeling rather fraudulent as we booked a second night anticipating 30 knots and it is a millpond outside!

We will anchor out in the Portimao channel tomorrow for two more nights, we are only 6 miles from Lagos where we meet Hans and Fred next week, two short hops away via Alvor.

A beautiful afternoon virtually alone on the enormous Portimao beach, sharing it with a handful of surfers. Harry suggested we take the kite which was a great idea as the wind was perfect; it was a very relaxing thing to do in a lovely spot.

Judging by the posters everywhere announcing sunset parties, multi-coloured parties, all night parties etc etc July and August sound hectic and heaving here so we are pleased to be here now as it is very quiet and calm still.

To answer a question we posed in February: in Gibraltar we bought 71 litres of diesel, plus 6 litres of petrol and guesstimated how much we paid; £30.38! Amazingly cheap.
