At anchor off the Ilha da Culatra, Faro

From the utter peacefulness of the River Guadiana, we now find ourselves anchored right under the flight path of Faro Airport! At breakfast we began a 'sweepstake' to see how many planes would fly over the boat today so throughout the day we were all carefully counting as they took off. It was a very close ending as literally one minute before the cut off point at 10pm the 58th plane took off so Harry was the winner!

More fishing today, but sadly nothing caught. It was however very peaceful to stand in the cockpit this evening with the squid lure, gently jigging it up and down, and quite an odd sensation to look out on the port side of the boat to see the long line of street lights leading up to and away from Faro, and on the starboard side of the boat complete blackness and the roar of the swell hitting the beach.

Bol had a few hours of peace today to get on with lots of useful things on board, mending, fixing and generally checking and preparing the boat further for our trip north, including trying out the storm jib.

Harry, Isabelle and I headed to Culatra beach which was very beautiful, long, wide and empty. There were lots of shells to collect, holes to be dug, and we managed to have a wonderfully dramatic swim in the surf. Harry was particularly pleased to find remains of the world's biggest cuttlefish?!
