Alcoutim/Sanlucar, River Guadiana

TC and her crew are now well and truly settled into the River Guadiana and spent the day recognising faces we had met at Christmas, longer-term boaters, many of whom have been here years, lured here by the almond blossom or the legendary figs many moons ago!

It was another hot day so when the temperature began to cool by 5pm, and the tide was high enough, we took a quiet dinghy ride up a tributary off the main river that weaves its way past town, its steep sided embankments providing ample nesting places for all sorts of wildlife.

The bird life was hectic with dozens of swallows and house martins darting in and out of their nests under the road bridge which we went under. Parental Muscovy ducks and their 9 tiny chicks enchanted Isabelle who was desperate to hold one, and we continued until we were stopped by a barrier of canya sticks when we just bobbed silently and listened to the birdsong and were even lucky enough to some night herons
. We are apparently in good time to witness the arrival of bee eaters and golden orioles any day now which will be a real treat.

In the meantime, and to be repeated every night this week, we are sending this message out as we would like an extra pair of hands for our trip north in early May, so...
Do you, or anyone you know, have 2-3 weeks available to do some spring sailing?  We are looking for a seasick-proof safe pair of hands preferably with offshore experience to help us sail back from the Algarve to St Malo at the beginning of May. If you are interested and would like more information, please could you email the boat at sadlertc {CHANGE TO AT} gmail {DOT} com. Expenses paid. Thank you.
