Alcoutim

Christmas Festivities began today sharing our Mince Pies on the sunny deck of Martha Primrose, now back in Alcoutim. The children had a fine time catching up, making dens, rushing around on the shore, collecting firewood for Martha Primrose's wood burning stove and generally enjoying the freedom and safety of life here on the River. A rowdy happy hour, pasta supper and happy anticipation of a fun ten days ahead before we all head our separate ways.

Popping ashore late morning for lunchtime stores nearly went pear shaped. I was deep into my Portuguese diary checking out whether the flour was 'plain' or 'self-raising' when I realised the shop was terribly quiet. By the time I'd decided to risk that Mince Pies could be made with "Harina para Fritar Piexe" I found that I had been locked into the shop and the shop keeper had gone on her 3hour lunch break.

Whilst it was sorely temping to wait and work my way through the olives, cheese and port on special offer, after a slight panic, I hid my basket of goodies and found I could let myself out of the shop and slam the front door locked behind me.

When I returned mid-afternoon my basket was still there, and since returning to TC, I have found the next batch of Mince Pies will have to be made using "Flour for frying fish"......

More sightings of the kingfisher, very special.
