Last night in Marina de Lagos

Today started early for the crew of Thursday's Child as we were all up and getting ready for breakfast at about 7.30. We walked just over two miles to the next harbour of Alvor which we are planning to visit in the boat tomorrow. We needed to see the sandbanks at dead low water, as we had been 'tipped off' that although the harbour is buoyed the sandbanks have a habit of moving and the buoys are not often moved to match them. It proved a good tip as the first starboard buoy needs to be left just to port!

Although the harbour is at the other end of the beach it is a big beach and it was a longer walk back again when the day was heating up. Tired legs and high temperatures were eased by stopping at a beach bar for an early lunchtime iced drink. Then it was back to the boat and lunch in the cockpit under the bimini.

A delightful couple who have been living on their boat for the last 3 years here kindly dropped by to tell us about their experiences of cruising this coastline. It transpired she was German and he came from Cowes on the Isle of Wight and his parents from Totland Bay have a boat at Shalfleet Quay! They passed on some excellent information about their favourite places and those to avoid when anchoring, covering the coast from here to Gibraltar.
