Sines

Fortunately we managed to catch the delicious complimentary fresh bread before leaving Oeiras this morning! We then headed out and south along the coast towards Sines (pronounced cinch).

After nearly five hours of motoring (the children were right, we do need lots of diesel to go sailing) a beautiful northerly wind developed and we had a cracking sail with goose-winged main and poled-out jib. Enormous lazy ocean rollers loomed behind and under TC, helping us on our way, completely blocking out any fishing boats we spotted as they vanished in the troughs.

Ironically the children were watching Blue Planet on the DVD, and then came out on deck to see the dolphins in real life, pretty special. Both fishing lines were out but nothing caught despite several fish being spotted leaping out of the water.

We arrived in Sines just after dark, creeping our way into this busy commercial port with the tiller in one hand and the brilliant Navionics electronic chart plotter in the other. Despite the AIS beeping away, the ships that surrounded us were either at anchor, alongside or behind us. We are anchored off the "Vasca de Gama beach" and look forward to what the morning light brings.
