We said goodbye to Mauritius at 0830 yesterday Sept 30th and set off in light SSE winds for La Reunion 132 nm away. By the time we had cleared the island the wind had freshened to 20 - 25 knots from the south and with 2 reefs in the main and just the staysail we were still topping 8 knots. So, rather than arrive too early we reduced sail even more and had a comfortable 6+ knot reach over lumpy moderate seas under clear skies and later a nice half moon. The Monitor steered us all the way, we had no leaks, the rigging felt solid and the new headsail set beautifully so all good. We arrived off Port des Galets as dawn broke and, after briefly rafting alongside Griffon 2, Jerome the Maitre du Port found us a good marina berth. Checking in involved completing two forms and the well armed but jovial customs officials came on board for a brief chat and a cursory glance at our passports - no stamps, no bullshit, this is France, what a refreshing and welcome change. Lots of great trekking opportunities here so a good chance to stretch those muscles for a couple of weeks before the next leg to South Africa
