Whoops, thought I’d already sent an arrival post – must have been the rum
in the anchor drop. Anyway, we arrived in Seydisfjiordur at 1630 on the 24th to
find a very pleasant customs lady waiting on the fishing to greet us with
surprisingly little paper work. We had forwarded our details by email beforehand
and that was undoubtedly appreciated. The dock is a bit rough with plenty of
rusty bits and some well worn tyres but more than adequate for our needs. A crew
of musicians from the Emerald isle were already alongside and soon after Becca
Boo arrived, so there was plenty of chat. The sun shone late into the evening
casting long vivid shadows over the surrounding peaks – but overnight the mist
rolled back in and by dawn we couldn’t see the far side of the fjord. The town
is small and Nordic neat with the usual supermarket, swimming pool and a pub.
Yesterday, on the way to the pool, we stopped off at a gift shop and Fi admired
an Icelandic wool beany hat – cost 35 pounds. Joe and Flynn set off in the mist
to climb one of the 7 peaks surrounding he anchorage and got a good way up
before the magnetic attraction of dinner and a swim in the pool brought them
back down. So we seem to be done here and are about to head off to Vopnafjordur
60nm north. |
