David found two to three litres of diesel in the bottom of the port side cockpit locker today. This locker holds the diesel tank containing 45 gals of fuel. Further investigations showed the leak to be coming from the connection at the bottom of the tank taking fuel to the first filter in the engine bay. Ted and David only turned on the fuel delivery on Saturday to bleed the system and test start the engine and the leak seems to occur mostly when the connection is opened using the circular turn valve head shown in the photo. The other photo shows the bottom of the tank were the leaking connector is locate tend David put a plastic container under the leak to collect the fuel.
Sod's law played its part as the tank is full and will have to be completely drained before a new connector valve and fuel pipe to the filter can be fitted!!
David used the rest of the day to strip, clean and sand the old fuel tank before apply two coats of antitrust paint. He also painted the cockpit lockers and the hanging lockers in the main saloon.
So a busy if frustrating day of work.
