MONDAY DECEMBER 8

 

Position at 2130 GMT: 14 deg 43.28 north 56 deg 16.61 west

 

Approx 273 miles to go to landfall

 

 

Now this is probably the last thing you’ll want to hear as you suffer cold weather, short days, miserable nights. But here goes anyhow...for us the heat started at 0710.

 

As the sun rose over the horizon the clouds melted away and it was the cue for Chris and Dave, on the 0600 to 0900 watch, to strip down to T-shirts and shorts. All day long we have suffered clear blue skies and blazing sunshine.

 

It’s 1840 our time now and the sun has just gone down, adding another fantastic photo to Dave’s collection of sunsets, which he’s going to have made into a set of table mats (order early for next Christmas as there’s bound to be a rush).

 

When it gets really hot the wind dies down, so we’ve been crawling along at under 5 knots most of the day. However, we’re hoping to make better progress during the night and landfall is barely two good sailing days away now.

 

What have we done today? Not a thing. Apart from recharge our personal batteries, that is. Everyone needs to relax now and again. Even sailors.
